Climate:
Average temperatures are 75 to 85F. Winter evenings can be cool, making a cozy fire enjoyable. There is a rainy (green) season in the spring and in the fall. Mornings are almost always clear, rainy seasons bring afternoon showers. Be aware that if you look online, the weather here may appear more rainy and hotter than it is. The weather varies somewhat throughout the island - the mountains are cooler, the southern and western areas are drier. Here at Maravilla, November through March may be virtually rain-free.
Storms:
Historically, the height of hurricane season is September. The western end of Puerto Rico does not usually get much or any affect from hurricanes, although they may go through San Juan.
The last hurricane to come into this area was Georges, in 1998. Before that, there had been no significant hurricane activity here for sixty years.
The Terrain
Maravilla has approximately 100 acres available for hiking and horseback riding. There are more than three waterways originating on or crossing the property. These lead to larger rivers and waterfalls.
The geography is very hilly and sneakers and/or boots are recommended. The earth itself is comprised mostly of red and other colored clays and you will find very interesting and varied stones in the waterways. We are at an elevation of about 1500 feet, which gives us some wonderful views and cool breezes.
